How much space does each person need?
The average house size for a family of four to live comfortably is around 2400 square feet. It is widely believed that each person in a home requires 200-400 square feet of living space.
The general rule of thumb is to allow 24 inches of space for every person gathered around your table. Most side chairs range between 16” wide and 24” wide, with arm chairs being as wide as 30”.
It doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's usually gonna get you pretty close. I think for an adult human, we need about 24 inches of width. So 24, 24, 24. You wanna sit three people on your sofa comfortably, we're looking at about 72 inches of inner seating width.
One of the secrets to learning how to arrange furniture is making sure you leave enough space between pieces. Allow 30 inches between furniture that you need to be able to walk around, and maintain 14 to 18 inches between a coffee table and sofa so drinks are within reaching distance.
So how much space does one person need? According to the engineering toolbox, the average person needs about 100-400 square feet of space to feel comfortable in an apartment.

But when experts analyze the handfuls of studies examining the effects of prolonged sitting, the data shows that sitting for more than eight hours a day can have a serious impact on a person's health.
A table that seats four should be about 48" long. To seat four to six people, look for a table that is at least 60" long. For six to eight guests, your table should be at least 78" long. The rule of thumb is to allow 24" of space per seat at your dining table.
LOW risk indicates sitting less than 4 hours per day. MEDIUM risk indicates sitting 4 to 8 hours per day. HIGH risk indicates sitting 8 to 11 hours per day. VERY HIGH risk indicates sitting more than 11 hours per day.
Furniture should also follow the 2:3 rule. This means your largest piece of furniture – for example, a sofa – should measure 2:3 of the area. Then work your way backwards from there. The coffee table should be 2:3 the size of the sofa, and so on.

The study found that 68% of the family's time was largely spent in the kitchen/nook as well as the family room, typically near the television. Clearly, the formal dining room got almost no use, and the living room saw very little activity, like the porch.

Sitting also contributes to muscle imbalances and weakness. Due to lack of activation, you could develop weak glutes and, possibly, even flattened glutes. So, getting up and taking a walk every hour, at the least, will keep your glutes strong and support your legs.
The Pros. Besides less sitting time, standing at work has other benefits: More calories burned: One study showed that standing sheds 88 calories an hour, compared to 80 calories for sitting. Walking burns a lot more -- 210 calories an hour.
There is no real prevention for standing, but there are ways to mitigate time spent standing in the workplace. Experts suggest to move around and change positions throughout the day. It is best not to sit in one position for more than 20 minutes, or to stand in one position for more than 8 minutes.

On average, the ideal square footage is about 600 – 700 square feet per person. That means a family of three will want a house that's at least 1,800 square feet.
One hundred square feet per person is a good rule when calculating how much office space you need for your team, avoiding claustrophobic working environments while keeping teams close enough to communicate efficiently during the day.
