How much is a week Travelcard in London?
If you stay in London for 6–7 days and use the underground, trains, and buses every day, the weekly Travelcard is the most cost-effective travel pass. The one-week pass including central London (zones 1-2) is £38.40. It's valid for travel at anytime; there is no peak or off-peak rate.
You can buy a 7 Day, Monthly and Annual Travelcard, or one with start and end dates you choose (any length between 1½ and 10½ months). 7 Day Travelcards give you seven days' travel for the price of five days.

The 'Zone' System Explained
When it comes to getting around, London is divided into 'zones' 1-9, with 'Zone 1' being the city centre and 'Zone 9' being the outskirts of the city. The system itself exists as a method for TfL (Transport for London) to calculate a customer's travel distance and charge accordingly.
There is a very small financial advantage to using a contactless card if you're in London for more than a week and travel extensively every single day (weekly capping) but otherwise it's no cheaper than using an Oyster.
No, London Underground tickets including Travel Cards and Freedom Passes cannot be used on Heathrow Express services.
The Oyster card costs £7. You then add money to the card to pay for your travel. The £7 fee is not a deposit. You do not get this money back.

How long can you use a Travelcard?

If you spend longer than the maximum journey time, you could be charged two maximum fares. A single maximum fare is: up to £8.90 in Zones 1-9. up to £26.00 beyond Zone 9, including on the Heathrow Express.
When buying a 24 hour Travelcard, you can choose a Day Anytime, which can be used at any time of the day and is valid until 4:30 am the next day. Or you can get the Day Off-Peak, which only allows you to take public transport after 9:30 am and is also valid until the next day at 4:30 am.

Can I use my Oyster card to get to Gatwick?
You can use your Oyster card to pay for journeys on the Gatwick Express. Simply touch the card on the yellow Oyster card reader at the gates to the platform at Gatwick station or London Victoria. Remember, you'll get the best price when you buy your Gatwick Express ticket online.
Cost: The standard single Tube ticket from Heathrow (zone 6) to central London (zone 1) is £6 for adults ($7.25) or, when paying with a contactless credit card, the single fare to central London is £3.10 ($3.75).

A contactless visitor Oyster card is excellent for pay as you go travel as fares are capped. This means this may cost less than a physical ticket. Same station exits
If you touch contactless (card or device) or an Oyster card on a yellow card reader when you enter a station, and then touch out to exit it within a short period of time, you'll be charged a same station exit: Between 0 - 2 minutes: a maximum fare.

Do Over 60s get free travel in London?
In England you can get a bus pass for free travel when you reach the State Pension age. If you live in London, you can travel free on buses, tubes and other transport when you're 60, but only within London.

TfL has launched its own official smartphone app, for checking Oyster card balances. The new app enables iPhone and Android smartphone owners to use their phone to add pay as you go credit or Travelcards to their Oyster card.
Oyster is then more convenient and a little cheaper. All the advice here is correct but you may also pay on London Transport using a contactless credit card if you have one. Check the Transport for London to see which are accepted.
If you forget to tap in or out with your contactless card you'll get the same maximum fare as you would with Oyster.

TfL introduced a temporary congestion charge fee of £15, up from £11.50, in May 2020. This was part of emergency measures taken during the pandemic to encourage a fall in traffic to make essential journeys easier.

The paper off peak One Day Travelcard for zone 1-6 is £14.40. This might seem expensive, but it's cheaper than paying the full cash fare for 3 underground trips in central London (3 x £6.30=£18.90).
You can travel from 09:30 (Monday to Friday), anytime on weekends or bank holidays for the date on the ticket and for journeys starting before 04:30 the next day.
Two people can't use the same contactless or Oyster card for a journey. If you have a Travelcard, Bus & Tram Pass or discount added to your Oyster card, you can't lend it to someone else.
