As of February 22, 2010, a federal law allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal and Alaska state law, to legally possess firearms within Denali National Park and Preserve.

Can You Carry a Gun While Hiking in Montana? Yes. Any person who is at least 18 years old and legally entitled to carry a firearm can carry a handgun openly or concealed in Montana without a permit.

Hiking with a gun is perfectly safe until you fire it, at which point everything with claws within earshot (and, there may be more than one such thing) comes toward you. The better solution is usually to make noise while you hike so you don't startle any animals you come across.

One of the first things I did upon arrival was buy bear spray, it is a MUST! Most car rental spots will give you some and all the backcountry huts we stayed in had extra but you should always carry it. Beyond that bring a bear bell and attach it to your backpack while hiking.
